Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet newly appointed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Wednesday, as Ukraine seeks additional military aid amid a surge in Russian airstrikes. Since assuming office three weeks ago, Merz has been actively pushing for a ceasefire and working to maintain Western unity in support of Ukraine. Germany, second only to the US in military assistance to Ukraine, remains a critical partner.

On the same day, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, signaling renewed diplomatic coordination among key allies. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy has expressed willingness to engage in peace talks at the highest level, proposing a trilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. “We are ready to meet at the level of leaders,” Zelenskyy said, emphasizing openness to any format for meaningful negotiations.
