Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal for peace talks in Moscow, calling it unrealistic and proof that Russia lacks genuine interest in negotiations. Speaking to US media, Zelenskyy said, “I can’t go to the capital of this terrorist,” stressing that Ukraine remains under constant missile and drone attacks. Instead, he invited Putin to Kyiv.

The issue of direct talks has been pushed by US President Donald Trump, who recently met Putin in Alaska and hopes for a Zelenskyy-Putin meeting after the Ukrainian leader’s visit to Washington. However, Moscow continues adding conditions while intensifying strikes on Ukrainian cities. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov insisted Moscow’s invitation was “to talk, not to capitulate.”
Zelenskyy noted that even the suggestion of a meeting was progress, but Russia’s actions spoke otherwise—over 1,300 drones, 900 guided bombs, and 50 missiles were launched at Ukraine in just five days this month.
