The United States intensified its pressure on Venezuela by flying two B-1 Lancer bombers near the country’s airspace. According to The Wall Street Journal, the long-range bombers departed from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas and remained in international airspace throughout the mission. While President Donald Trump dismissed the report as “inaccurate,” he acknowledged Washington’s dissatisfaction with Venezuela.

President Nicolás Maduro responded with an English plea for peace, saying, “No crazy war, please! Yes peace forever.” The show of force followed recent U.S. “attack demonstrations” near Venezuela. U.S. officials claimed the bombers could target narcotics operations, echoing Trump’s warning that U.S. forces could strike land targets. The U.S. has also deployed stealth warplanes and Navy ships for counter-narcotics missions but has yet to present evidence linking its maritime targets to drug smuggling.
