In a historic first, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi was closed to the public to welcome US President Donald Trump during his official visit to the United Arab Emirates. The visit, part of Trump’s wider Middle East tour including stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, began with a solemn tribute at the mausoleum of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Trump, accompanied by Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reflected on Sheikh Zayed’s enduring legacy of peace and tolerance. The US delegation toured the mosque, learning about its role in promoting cross-cultural dialogue and global Islamic values. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre’s efforts to foster interfaith understanding were also highlighted. To mark the occasion, the Burj Khalifa lit up in red, white, and blue. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it a “historic return to the Middle East.”
