High-level peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia are set to begin Monday in Malaysia, following the deadliest border clashes in over a decade. The violence, reignited on July 24 after the killing of a Cambodian soldier in May, has claimed over 30 lives and displaced more than 150,000 civilians. Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai will lead the negotiations, beginning at 3 p.m. local time.

The United States is actively supporting the talks, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump pressuring both nations to agree to a ceasefire. Trump called the negotiations “an easy one” and hinted at potential tariffs to enforce peace. Meanwhile, tensions remain high on the ground, with fresh artillery exchanges reported Sunday. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has also called for an immediate ceasefire. Thailand has reported 22 deaths, including eight soldiers; Cambodia has confirmed 13 fatalities, five of them military.
