Federal authorities have labeled the Washington, D.C. shooting outside a Jewish museum as an act of terrorism and hate crime. Elias Rodriguez, 31, allegedly shot and killed two Israeli Embassy staffers who were soon to be engaged. Witnesses heard him shout, “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza” and “Free Palestine” while being taken into custody.

According to the FBI affidavit, Rodriguez traveled from Chicago with a concealed firearm, arriving hours before the attack. Surveillance showed him pacing suspiciously before targeting a group outside the museum. After the shooting, he entered the museum and declared, “I did it. I am unarmed.”

The FBI described the attack as premeditated and calculated. FBI Director Kash Patel called it a “targeted anti-Semitic act of terror,” promising a full federal response. Rodriguez refused to respond in court, and more charges are expected as investigations continue.
