In retaliation to Ukraine's Operation Spiderweb, which damaged a third of Russia's cruise missile carriers, Russia launched its most extensive assault in the ongoing three-year war. Over 400 drones and 40 missiles struck nine Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, Lviv, and Sumy. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed at least six fatalities, including three firefighters in Kyiv and civilians in Lutsk and Chernihiv. Around 80 people were injured, and more may be trapped under debris.

Zelensky criticized the global silence on such attacks, accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin of exploiting international inaction to prolong the war. He called for urgent diplomatic efforts, stronger pressure on Russia, and immediate steps toward a ceasefire.
Russia’s defense ministry claimed the attack was a response to Ukraine’s “terrorist acts.” Emergency operations continued throughout the day as Ukraine grappled with the devastation of this massive assault.
