Russian President Vladimir Putin made his first visit to the border region of Kursk on Wednesday, following Russia’s recapture of the area from Ukrainian forces last month. His trip included meetings with local volunteer groups and an inspection of a nuclear power plant. Kursk, briefly seized by Ukraine in August 2024, marked the first incursion into Russian territory since World War II.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Sumy region continues to face intensified Russian attacks. On Tuesday, Russia claimed to have targeted a Ukrainian special forces training camp with an Iskander missile, releasing aerial footage of the strike. Ukraine reported six soldiers killed and ten injured in a separate missile attack, prompting an internal investigation and suspension of a unit commander.

Ukraine retaliated with a drone strike on a semiconductor facility in Russia’s Oryol region. Russia reported intercepting 159 drones in 12 hours, targeting several regions including Moscow. The conflict shows no signs of easing.
