Pope Francis, the first Latin American head of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away on April 21 at the age of 88, following a stroke. The Vatican confirmed the news through Reverend Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, who announced the Pope's death at 7:35 a.m. in Rome.
The Holy See stated that Pope Francis’ body was laid to rest at the Chapel of his Santa Marta residence on the evening of April 21. It is expected to be transferred to St. Peter’s Basilica for public homage on April 23.
The Pope had been hospitalized in February with bronchitis, which progressed to double pneumonia, leading to a 38-day stay—the longest during his 12-year papacy.

The funeral date remains unconfirmed, but as per tradition, is expected between April 25 and 27. A gathering of cardinals today, April 22, is set to decide on the final arrangements.
