Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated after Pakistan's ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, warned of potential nuclear retaliation. Speaking to Russian broadcaster RT, Jamali claimed Islamabad has credible intelligence suggesting imminent Indian military strikes. He declared Pakistan would respond with "the full spectrum of power, both conventional and nuclear" if attacked or if India disrupts its water supply.

The warning comes after the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26, mostly tourists. India blamed Pakistan-based groups, a charge Islamabad denies. In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), a longstanding water-sharing pact. Jamali labelled the move “an act of war.”
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif echoed this stance, warning that any Indian construction on the Indus River would be targeted. He emphasized that blocking water could equate to mass suffering and would provoke strong retaliation.
