North Korea has test-fired two strategic long-range cruise missiles in a show of nuclear combat readiness, amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. According to state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the launches took place on Sunday over the Yellow Sea and were personally overseen by leader Kim Jong Un. The drill was intended to assess the combat capability and counter-offensive readiness of long-range missile units.
KCNA reported that the missiles flew for more than two hours before accurately striking their targets at sea, with state media releasing footage of the launches and impacts. Kim expressed “great satisfaction” and reiterated Pyongyang’s commitment to the “unlimited and sustained development” of its nuclear forces.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed detecting several cruise missile launches from the Sunan area near Pyongyang and said it remains on full alert in close coordination with the United States. North Korea described the tests as defensive, citing self-defence amid perceived external threats.
