Lionel Messi once again proved decisive as Inter Miami defeated D.C. United 3-1 at Chase Stadium, keeping their Supporters’ Shield hopes alive. The Argentine maestro set up Tadeo Allende with a sublime pass in the 35th minute to give Miami the lead. D.C. equalized through Christian Benteke early in the second half, but Messi quickly turned the tide.

In the 66th minute, he linked up with Jordi Alba, finishing coolly into the far corner. Minutes later, the 38-year-old struck again with a stunning left-footed effort from outside the box to secure the win. Despite being awarded a penalty, Messi handed the chance to young teammate Mateo Silvetti, who struck the crossbar.
Jacob Murrell scored late for D.C., but Miami’s dominance was clear. With games in hand, Javier Mascherano’s side sits firmly in playoff contention, eyeing another Supporters’ Shield push.
