Somewhere along the line, you must pay the price for everything you get and everything you do. I did earn this money the hard way. It almost cost me my wife, my kids and my soul.
The Root of All Evil tells a story about family drama, shattered dreams, greed, deception and murder. In the end, I learned things aren’t always what they appear. While I contemplated the idea of winning a $4 million lottery, another story was beginning to unfold involving a trusted friend, a deceitful attorney, international drug dealers and a murder plot.
By the time we collected the first lottery check, there had been a restraining order, three lawsuits, six attorneys, 2 criminal investigations, an Ostrich farm, two murders, the loss of several friendships and a man on death row.

Chapter 2: The Quest
Once I got the facts firsthand, I thought I wouldn’t have to confront Darla and tell her she didn’t really own that $4 million ticket. I promised myself that, if Darla said she purchased the ticket with her own money, I would wish her much happiness and let the matter drop.
I felt I had been thrust into a situation that was so bizarre that it wasn’t obvious how I should proceed. I’d had no past experiences that offered me any guidance. Within minutes of Marlene’s phone call, the prospect of a pleasant Easter and all the activities we’d planned for the children were eclipsed by the potential consequences of any action I might take. I kept telling myself that there had been some sort of misunderstanding.
