Iran's Defense Ministry revealed its latest ballistic missile, Qassem Basir, on May 4, during a televised interview with Defense Minister General Aziz Nasirzadeh. The solid-fueled missile boasts a range of at least 1,200 kilometers and features a thermal imaging guidance system that enables high precision, even without GPS and under electronic interference. Designed to bypass advanced missile defense systems, it enhances Iran’s strategic deterrence capabilities. The missile was successfully test-fired on April 17.

The unveiling coincided with rising tensions, as Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a ballistic missile that landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport the same day. Israeli attempts to intercept it using the Arrow system and the U.S.-made THAAD failed. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of retaliatory action, vowing to "teach Tehran a lesson." Iran’s display of the Qassem Basir underscores its commitment to military self-reliance amid escalating regional threats.
