Following the U.S. government’s decision to ban Harvard University from enrolling international students for the 2025–2026 academic year, Hong Kong's Education Bureau is urging local universities to attract affected scholars. The ban, attributed to alleged antisemitism and ties to the Chinese Communist Party, will force international students—many of whom are Chinese nationals—to seek alternatives.
In response, the Hong Kong Education Bureau has reached out to the Harvard Club of Hong Kong to support affected students and emphasized the city’s role as an international education hub. The University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has extended an open invitation to both current and incoming Harvard international students, offering streamlined admissions and academic support.
Despite recent educational reforms aligning more closely with mainland China’s national security policies, Hong Kong still boasts five universities ranked in the global top 100, positioning the city as a promising destination for displaced talent.
