Intense fighting broke out late Tuesday between Pakistani security forces and the Afghan Taliban along the Kurram border, according to state broadcaster PTV News. The report said Afghan Taliban and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters, referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” opened unprovoked fire, prompting a strong retaliation from the Pakistani Army. Several Taliban positions reportedly sustained heavy damage, with multiple tanks destroyed and fighters fleeing their posts.

A key TTP commander was also reported killed. Earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch briefed foreign envoys in Islamabad about escalating tensions. The clashes followed an Afghan assault over the weekend that killed 23 Pakistani troops, to which Pakistan’s military claims to have killed over 200 militants in response. Kabul described its attack as “retaliatory,” accusing Islamabad of air strikes inside Afghanistan—claims Pakistan has not confirmed, while urging the Taliban to stop sheltering TTP militants on Afghan soil.
