Former Australian cricketer Stuart MacGill was found guilty of a reduced charge related to drug supply by a Sydney District Court jury on Thursday. However, he was cleared of involvement in a large-scale drug transaction that took place in April 2021.

Prosecutors alleged that MacGill’s drug supplier and brother-in-law, Marino Sotiropoulos, arranged a deal involving $330,000 for a kilogram of cocaine. MacGill facilitated a meeting at his restaurant but claimed he was unaware of any illicit transaction. The prosecution argued that his prior knowledge was crucial to the deal’s execution.
While the jury dismissed allegations of MacGill’s direct involvement in the one-kilogram cocaine transaction, they convicted him of a lesser charge linked to drug supply. His sentencing has been adjourned for eight weeks.
MacGill, who played 44 Tests for Australia and took 208 wickets, was renowned for his sharp leg-spin but had a career overshadowed by legendary spinner Shane Warne.
