"LAST FLIGHT OF THE DREAMLINER" - By Author Murari Kaimal

Last Flight of the Dreamliner is not just a survival story—it’s a piercing exploration of grief, memory, and the will to move forward when everything has been taken away. In a world still reeling from a tragedy that left millions mourning, this book brings to life the haunting echoes of an aircrash that changed countless destinies. At its heart is Emily Park, the sole survivor, whose brokenness becomes the very ground on which her strength begins to grow.
Through Emily’s journey, the book reveals how survival is never just about living—it is about carrying the weight of stories that can no longer be told. Each step she takes is shadowed by the silence of those lost, yet propelled by the need to uncover truths that matter to everyone. This is not a tale of forgetting, but of remembering with courage, of holding grief in one hand while reaching for light with the other.
Last Flight of the Dreamliner is both an elegy and a testimony, offering readers a deeply human portrait of resilience. It shows us that survival is not about escaping pain but about transforming it into meaning. By daring to confront what most would turn away from, Emily’s journey reminds us that the quiet act of surviving is, in itself, a powerful voice—one that carries the strength of many, and the promise of hope for all.

But a busy and successful Surgical and academic career meant he didnot have time to expand these or felt they were not worth the time and effort. It was only recently that he wanted to write a story for his beloved daughter Aradhya, which nudged him to go forward with his creativity which ended up as his first published title The Whispers of the Enchanted Breeze- a whimsical children's fantasy and magic book. The success and accolades received by the same prompted him to go forward and expand his ideas resulting in the Last Flight of the Dreamliner, which is a Suspense thriller in the backdrop of an Air crash investigation, which is not a surprise given Dr. Kaimal's Airforce background with in-depth knowledge and training in Aerospace medicine and experience of flying and dealing with aircrafts, aviation and pilots as a decorated commissioned officer of the IAF.

INTERVIEW OF AUTHOR MURARI KAIMAL
Q: What inspired you to write Last Flight of the Dreamliner?
The idea was seeded by numerous incidents during my air travels that made me ask: “What if the worst nightmare comes true, and how will we all react if there is a crash?”. Paired with the multiple aircraft incidents recently, piecing together things technically and emotionally led to the birth of a fiction novel, inspired by true events.
Q: How did you capture the emotional journey of Emily Park, the sole survivor?
Emily is the best version of our minds. She is empathetic, strong, resilient, righteous, curious and above all, a survivor. She is grieving the lives lost and questioning her survival, at the same time, brave enough to move forward to uncover and expose the sinister truths for the sake of one and all.
Q: Do you see parallels between Emily’s resilience and the resilience needed in medicine?
Resilience or Survival instinct is a virtue which is ingrained in us by evolution. The circumstances that trigger it can be an air crash, as in the case of Emily, but can very well be a Surgeon in an operating theatre, a soldier on a battlefield, or a cancer survivor. All of us have the resilient hero who fights and refuses to surrender buried in us. The scenario changes, but the emotional rollercoaster and mental strength portrayed are relevant in our routine struggles.
Q: How did your experiences influence the portrayal of trauma and memory in the book?
Being a frequent flyer, and Aviation specialist, I used to observe the anxiety, phobias and reactions of people during Flight take-off, landing and turbulence. The nervous smiles, anxious glances, and kids wailing - the cabin literally transforms into a purgatory. As a practising surgeon, seeing patients overcoming the trauma of survival daily helped me to empathise and breathe emotions into the narrative better.
Q: Did writing this story offer personal insights into coping with loss?
For me, writing is a process of introspection and self-conversing. It has definitely helped me transform into a better, more resilient version of myself.
Q: How do you balance vulnerability and strength in your characters?
As an author, I prefer to keep the emotions real and raw. Strength stems from vulnerability; if you are never vulnerable or made to push your limits, how will you know your strength? They are like two faces of the same coin.
Q: Did your approach of combining technology with compassion in medicine influence your writing?
It would be safe to say that my technical knowledge of aircraft and aviation safety standards during my years in the Air Force has helped tremendously in shaping an accurate technical narrative, merged with the compassionate doctor side, which portrays the individuals in the story on a more personal and emotional level.
Q: How does storytelling complement your work as a doctor and mentor?
I consider it a welcome escape or relaxation akin to meditation, a sanctuary to vent out my thoughts and tribulations, transforming it into something meaningful. So the day-to-day interactions inspire me with thoughts and ideas to write more, and my patients, in return, benefit from a relaxed, composed and focused doctor.
Q: What challenges did you face writing fiction compared to medical work?
More than the writing part, getting your book out there and published is a big challenge when you are coming from a medical field and not well-versed or connected with the literary circle and publishing business. I was quite fortunate to find TS publications, led by Sushmit and Tusharika, who had the same ideologies and wavelength; we are like a family now.
Q: What key message do you hope readers take away about survival and the human spirit?
I would like to quote an excerpt on Emily from the book itself, which I feel embodies the essence of the book and life beautifully- “In the echoes of despair, she would discover purpose, and from the ashes, she would forge a new beginning.”
We all have an Emily in all of us; we just need to stand tall and face our personal tragedies, refusing to buckle under pressure, to bring out the inner survivor.
emotional level.
