Colombian senator and presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe remains in an "extremely critical" condition after being shot during a campaign speech in Bogotá on June 7. The 39-year-old conservative politician was struck twice in the head and once in the leg by a 15-year-old suspected hitman. Doctors said he is suffering from persistent cerebral edema and uncontrollable intercerebral bleeding.

Following an emergency operation on Monday to halt internal bleeding, his condition further deteriorated. "He is out of surgery and his condition is extremely critical," stated Dr. Adolfo Llinas Volpe.
Uribe, affiliated with the Democratic Center party of former president Álvaro Uribe (no relation), announced his 2026 presidential bid last October. He is the son of slain journalist Diana Turbay and grandson of ex-president Julio César Turbay. The attack has reignited fears of a return to the violent political climate that plagued Colombia in the 1980s and 1990s.
