Nepal descended into a deep political crisis on Tuesday as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stepped down following two days of massive unrest. The turmoil, led primarily by student groups and dubbed the “Gen Z” movement, was initially sparked by the government’s controversial ban on social media. However, it quickly evolved into a nationwide uprising against alleged corruption, elitism, and government apathy.
Protestors stormed key government buildings, torched the Federal Parliament premises, and set fire to residences of several prominent leaders. The headquarters of political parties were also targeted in an unprecedented show of public anger. An aerial view from Kathmandu revealed heavy smoke billowing from the parliament compound, symbolising the scale of destruction.

The violence erupted just a day after 19 demonstrators were killed during clashes with police, intensifying public outrage and forcing Oli’s resignation. Nepal now faces uncertainty as its political leadership scrambles to restore stability.
