Highlighter has the power to transform your makeup look, but placement makes all the difference. Applying it strategically according to your face shape enhances your natural structure rather than overpowering it. The key is to highlight where light naturally hits while subtly balancing proportions.
For oval faces, which are naturally balanced, focus on the high points: the tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and a touch on the cupid’s bow. A small sweep on the brow bone adds lift without altering the face’s harmony.
Round faces benefit from elongation. Apply highlighter slightly higher on the cheekbones, blending upward toward the temples rather than concentrating on the apples of the cheeks. A thin line down the center of the nose can also create a subtle lengthening effect.

If you have a square face, aim to soften strong angles. Highlight the tops of the cheekbones in a curved motion and add a gentle touch to the center of the forehead and chin. Keeping the glow diffused helps create a smoother, more fluid appearance.
For heart-shaped faces, balance is key. Apply highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones and slightly under the brow arch. Avoid over-highlighting the forehead; instead, add a touch to the chin to create visual symmetry.
Long or rectangular faces need width rather than height. Focus highlighter on the apples of the cheeks and blend outward horizontally. Avoid drawing a long line down the nose, as this can emphasize length.
No matter your face shape, less is more. Use a light hand and blend thoroughly to avoid harsh streaks. Cream formulas provide a natural glow, while powders offer a more defined sheen.
When placed thoughtfully, highlighter enhances your features effortlessly, creating dimension, radiance, and a beautifully balanced finish tailored to your unique face shape.
